San Salvador, Apr 18 (Prensa Latina) FMLN (the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front) in El Salvador invited CD (Cambio Democratico) and FDR (Democratic Revolutionary Front) to form a left-wing bloc for the next elections of March 2009.

A member of FDR confirmed to La Prensa Grafica daily on-line edition that opposition presidential candidate of FMLN, Mauricio Funes, requested a meeting with FMLN leaders and urged CD leaders to follow suit and talk about a possible electoral alliance.

According to the source, who requested to remain anonymous, the FDR coalition welcomed the proposal, with some of its members, including general coordinator Rene Conjura, backing it publicly.

Latest opinion polls point to FMLN as the favourite, with Funes as the presidential candidate and Salvador Sanchez Ceren as his running mate for the vice presidential post.
