2008 Coastal Highway

Update January 2009.

The highly anticipated Coastal Highway (Carretera Costera), is now open!!!  Thats right! The Coastal highway is open!!  Millions of people just got a lot closer to Puerto Penasco. The road is paved all the way and it is a very good quality road. You can now drive all the way to El Golfo from Rocky Point in about 1 hour and 15 mintues. Better yet Yuma can make it to Rocky Point in about 2 1/2 hours. El Centro, CA. about 3 1/2, and San Diego about 5 1/4 hours.

TIMES: San Diego to El Centro time 1:45 hrs. El Centro to Yuma 1 hour. Yuma to El Golfo 1:15 hour, EL Golfo to Rocky Point 1:15 hours.

POPULATION STATISTICS:

Mexicali is now just 3 hours away. "The city itself had a 2005 census population of 653,046, whereas the municipality's population was 895,962. It is the 13th largest municipality in Mexico as of the Census 2005 with population estimates exceeding one million alone" (Wikopedia).

Yuma Population - 200,000

El Centro Population - 41,000

San Diego Population - "The state of California put the city's population at 1,336,865. It is the second largest city in California and the eighth largest city in the United States, by population. It is the county seat of San Diego County and is the economic center of the San Diego–Carlsbad–San Marcos metropolitan area, the 17th-largest in the United States with a population of 3,146,274 as of 2008." (Wikopedia)   

The official grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony is set for Dec 17th. Things are definitely looking up.
